This course is for church folks and others who follow Jesus and want to check in with Jesus and how he directed his own disciples. You will learn (or review) what Matthew’s gospel says Jesus expects of his followers, discover that Jesus’ followers are blessed despite their circumstances, and be reminded that Jesus’ followers are to reflect the love of God for all persons, no matter how others treat them.
There is a required three-hour Zoom session on Tuesday evening from 6:30 – 9:30pm eastern time. The Zoom meeting will not be recorded. In this session we will review the Discission Board work participants have done on Monday; discuss some general topics; and engage in a curated reading of the first part of the Sermon on the Mount.

About the Instructor
Ron McCreary earned a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology in1984. He has been working with Scripture for 30 years as a preacher and teacher in local congregations. In his preaching and teaching he’s always found the Sermon on the Mount intriguing – and challenging. Matthew’s Jesus calls his followers up the mountain. He tells them what is expected, not of the world, but of them, and what kind of community they are to be together. Jesus tells them how to live and thrive together in a world that is not interested in their values. Ron yearns for that kind of community, and accepts the difficult challenges the Sermon poses.
