Proclaiming Scripture with a Storytelling Spirit for Summer in 2025 offers a relaxed but in-depth journey through some of the stories of the great prophet Elijah in 1st and 2nd Kings, with coaching and mutual encouragement for not just reading, but proclaiming the Scripture texts “with a storytelling spirit,” as they were originally intended to be experienced!
This course is for both liturgists who prefer to read Scripture and biblical storytellers who learn and tell the text by heart. This is a chance to go beyond the brief pieces included in the Revised Common Lectionary for this summer and dig into a drama that Jesus referenced often. It’s a story of politics, economics, emotion, and faith – a story with powerful connections to our world today.
Six discussion board assignments will be spread over the five weeks, as well as one-hour Zoom meetings on the six Mondays, at 1 p.m. and evenings at 6 p.m. Central time. You may attend either one each week. Attendance at five of the twelve, as well as the Blackboard interactions, is required for a certificate. The last events of the course will be the Zoom sessions on July 7.

Past Learners said…
“As usual, Beth was a great teacher. I have taken a variety of different classes from her and have always found her to be on top of her subject. She can be a hard task-master, but what I get out of her classes is well worth whatever she throws at us. I was grateful that the Lenten and Advent [Biblical Storytelling Weekly] studies were spread out a bit more given all the other activities going on during the two seasons. It is a great idea to allow us to work on storytelling without getting overwhelmed. Thanks, Beth.”
