A brand new series: Highlights from the book of Acts! This time we’ll dig into drama as the Church crosses boundaries: Pentecost, the first deacons (and the first church fight), Stephen’s murder, Philip in Samaria and the Ethiopian, the call of Saul, and Peter and Cornelius.
We’ll go beyond the slivers of Acts included in the Revised Common Lectionary and dig into the early church’s politics, perils, courage, and faith – stories with powerful connections to our world today.
It’s a relaxed journey (one discussion topic per week), with coaching and mutual encouragement (one Zoom per week), for those who want to polish their ability to proclaim – to bring Scripture powerfully to life, either by reading or Telling by heart.
Six discussion board assignments will be spread over the five weeks, as well as one-hour Zoom meetings on the six Mondays, at 1 p.m. and evenings at 6 p.m. Central time. You may attend either one each week. Participation in at least four of the twelve, as well as the Blackboard interactions, is required for a certificate. The last events of the course will be the Zoom sessions on July 7.

About the Instructor
Rev. Beth Galbreath is a United Methodist deacon who has been Telling Scripture by heart and teaching others this art and spiritual discipline for over 20 years. She is a former vice president of the Network of Biblical Storytellers International and has presented Tellings and taught biblical storytelling online and in Bolivia, Cameroon, Haiti, India, the Philippines, and of course in churches and conferences in the United States. So she’s also passionate about helping those who read Scripture in worship to find their “biblical storytelling spirit” voices, bringing their proclamation of Scripture to life!
Past Learners said…
“As usual, Beth was a great teacher. I have taken a variety of different classes from her and have always found her to be on top of her subject. She can be a hard task-master, but what I get out of her classes is well worth whatever she throws at us. I was grateful that the Lenten and Advent [Proclaiming Scripture with a Storytelling Spirit] studies were spread out a bit more given all the other activities going on during the two seasons. It is a great idea to allow us to work on storytelling without getting overwhelmed. Thanks, Beth.”
