This two-week course is designed for preachers with some experience, who want to improve their skill in writing sermons on the stories of biblical women. The course will help deepen the approach to sermon writing, and to biblical women, even if this is a previously unexplored area. Each learner will study five groups of biblical women, choose one to use as the focus of a full sermon, draft a sermon, and discuss it with the group and the instructor. The skills learned in this course (sermon writing, research, and interpretation) will serve participants well in preparation of sermons on other topics. 

In addition to Blackboard interactions, 1 optional Zoom meeting will be held in the second week, with learner input. The meeting will not be recorded.

Learners are required two books for this course, which could be purchased or borrowed:

Doing the Deed: The Mechanics of 21st Century Preaching workbook by Martha J. Simmons.

Women’s Bible Commentary, 3rd edition edited by Carol A. Newsom; Jacqueline E. Lapsley; Sharon H. Ringe (There is another book called ‘The Women’s Bible Commentary’ which is very different. Also the third edition is very different than prior ones.)
