This practicum course serves as a capstone field experience under the supervision of a BeADisciple instructor and with the support of the local church. The course equips learners to be effective worship leaders who integrate their coursework with practical experiences in their ministry settings. Individualized projects are designed and conducted to enhance the personal growth of the learner and to stimulate worship renewal in their congregations.
Learners are required to have this book for this class: A Worship Workbook: A Practical Guide for Extraordinary Liturgy by Gerald C. Liu and Khalia J. Williams.
For United Methodists: The United Methodist Hymnal, 1989 and The United Methodist Book of Worship, 1992
Students from other denominations may substitute their principal ritual book/s, such as Book of Common Prayer (Episcopal 1979), Evangelical Worship (Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2006), Book of Common Worship (Presbyterian Church USA, 2018), Book of Worship (United Church of Christ, 1986).
In addition to Blackboard interactions, optional Zoom meetings will be scheduled with the learners’ input. The meetings will not be recorded.

About the Instructor
Jeffery Seeley recently retired as the associate professor of church music at the Mercer University Townsend School of Music and as the director of music at Vineville United Methodist Church in Macon, Georgia. He holds degrees in music and theology from Lycoming College, Drew University, and Mansfield University, and a D.Min. degree from Emory University. An ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church, Jeff has held positions as pastor, professor, and church musician for almost 50 years. He has a heart for strengthening pastor and church musician relationships and training for the sake of the assembly’s worship.
